Chinese Militia and a European Mercenary

 So I got a light box, and I'm still dialing in how to use it most efficiently. 

 

I've painted up a Chinese Militia and a few heroes or officers. The militia is for Fistful of Lead and is organized around one leader, and four groups of grunts - consisting of 3 grunts per group. The idea is that this could be a poorly trained and armed swarm or hoard.


Fistful of Lead focuses around squad based skirmish combat, and your typical squad has 5 models. The leader, specialist, and three regulars and you can swap out one regular for a group of grunts. However there are several squad variants allowing things like a exchanging all five of your guys for four specialists, or in this case, for four groups of grunts and one leader. It's a great system, if you've never played it check it out. (7$ pdf!) 


Here are the three heroes or leaders, my apologies as they're a bit washed out. Two Chinese on either end and a European Mercenary in the center. He's not terribly thrilled with the task at hand, or the quality of his troops, or both... 


The riflemen, who knows how good their shot's are. These could be split up into two groups of three, or could form the core of two separate 5 man squads taking leaders from above.


The melee element, can't have a good hoard of angry Chinemen without some melee! Red Spear Society spearmen and Big Sword Society Swordsmen, again could be broken down into two groups of 3 for grunts, or even use the 2 swordsmen as specialists in their own separate 5 man squads. Possibilities.. possibilities. Give the pistols "Burst" and say that they're Astra 901's even! Machine Pistols and swords sounds like a bad day. 



 The whole group all together. I just need to get some tufts and finish up decorating their bases. 

All in all I'm pleased that I got some guys painted and some decent (or at least better than in the past) photos taken, however I'm not overwhelmingly pleased with the quality of my paint job. I'm having a hard time enjoying painting dudes, I like tanks. I have so many guys to get through, so we shall see. 

What's up next? I have some Warlord Infantry close to finish, maybe I'll tackle them.

The Yellow Locust Gang

The countryside of Xiǎo Yú, like with most Chinese provinces during this era, is plagued with bandit gangs. Ranging from small ragtag groups of thugs to large organized but poorly disciplined hosts they are countless and unending. A constant stream of destitute peasants, craven deserters, and those just looking for an easy meal keep these gangs flush with manpower. Two major gangs prowl Xiǎo Yú, one of which is known as "The Yellow Locust Gang." Yellow representing power and prosperity in traditional Chinese culture, and locust referring to the gangs ability to lay waste to all they descend on. They are lead by "Four Eyes" Chin, a smart and capable man believed to once have been a junior officer in the now destroyed Anhui Clique. Armored Rail Cruiser "The Angry Dragon"

 Known as The Angry Dragon to the locals and the common soldiery, and the Armored Cruiser to most military commanders in the province, this train is a coveted and feared weapon, often fought over by all sides. At one point or another the train has steamed alongside all the major powers in the province, from the Japanese, to the Warlords, the Nationalists and even the White Russians. Shifting sides when captured or overran, no commander is willing to scuttle her, they rather squabble than take her out of play. She may be ours this week, theirs the next, the Bolsheviks the following, but by next month, she'll be ours again! 6 weeks at most..   Under Japanese Command, patrolling somewhere deep in the countryside.
